17 Missed Calls from a Dead Phone….The Daughter I Buried Is Calling Me???
At 3:00 a.m., my phone lit up the dark room with seventeen missed calls and a single desperate text:
“Dad, help! Come fast!”
Panic surging through my veins, I sped through the quiet streets to my eldest daughter’s house, pounding on her front door. But when she opened it, she looked at me with confusion—she hadn’t called. I held out my screen. The moment her eyes landed on the caller ID, all the color drained from her face.
“Dad…” her voice trembled. “That’s Helen’s number.”
Helen, my youngest, had died in a tragic car accident a year ago.
Before either of us could move, a new message flashed on the screen: “I am still waiting. Where are you?”
My hands shaking uncontrollably, I dialed the number back and held the phone to my ear. A young woman answered through stifled tears. Her car had broken down on a dark highway, and in her panic, she was trying to reach her own father using an old saved number—a line that had once belonged to Helen.
I stayed on the line with her, speaking gently until her real father arrived. Once she was safe, I walked back to my car and sat in the dark, weeping until the sun rose. For a few fleeting, impossible moments, those missed calls had given me back the daughter I lost.
