“The first prisoners who were captured — they were from intelligence — had their eyes gouged out, their lips cut off, their genitals removed, and even their ears and noses were mutilated,” Vladislav’s brother, Yevhen, recounted.
In his diary, Vladislav described being thrown into a pit containing the bodies of seven deceased soldiers, with garbage heaped on top to cover the mass grave.
“According to him, he was lucky that when they dumped them into the pit, they added extra garbage on top, so it wasn’t immediately visible. There was a broken bottle there, and since his hands were tied, he managed to cut the ropes with it,” Vladislav’s wife, Victoria, told Suspilne.
After freeing himself, Vladislav reportedly crawled for five days through hostile terrain before reaching Ukrainian lines. Upon arrival, he was rushed to the hospital, severely weakened from massive blood loss and wounds that had already begun to rot.

General Director Serhiy, a medic in the Ukrainian military, said: “When they cut your throat, when a person is bleeding out, the chances are very slim. He held on until the very end — but what set him apart was his unshakable belief that everything would turn out fine.”
Vladislav, the father of a four-year-old daughter, is now recovering with the hope of regaining his ability to speak. His family and doctors remain optimistic, and his brother confirmed that he intends to return to the front line once he has fully healed.
Calling his Russian captors “creatures,” Yevhen added that Vladislav wants them to suffer the same torment he and his seven fallen comrades endured.
